THERE was something for everyone when Buckie RNLI lifeboat station held their annual open day on Saturday, September 9.
Guest of honour Andrew Simpson, the Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire, was on hand to blow the horn declaring the event open at 12 noon.
In addition to chatting to members of the public he had the chance to meet local Boys’ Brigade lad Jacob Shand, who created the winning design for the Banffshire coronation pin, and the RNLI mascot himself, Stormy Stan.
Visitors to the event had the chance to have a look round the lifeboat station, chat to the volunteer crew about their roles and find out how to join their ranks.
One of the star attractions of the day was the Buckie RNLI lifeboat herself, the 3200hp Severn class William Blannin, with guided tours of the vessel proving very popular.
However, the crew had to rely on good, old fashioned muscle power when the Blue Light Challenge Trophy skiff rowing race got under way, with the contestants cheered on by the crowds gathered on the quayside.
There was plenty to do on shore, too, with a variety of stalls and other attractions on hand.
Representatives from the other emergency services were on hand, including Buckie’s flanking RNLI station at Macduff – who took the chance to show off their new Atlantic 85 class lifeboat Skipasund – HM Coastguard and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, among others.
The event was sponsored, for the first time, by Ocean Winds who are currently building the operating base for their Moray West Wind Farm close to the lifeboat station.
