Huge changes to more than 700 Coles stores: Here’s what you need to know

Coles Express petrol stations are about to become a thing of the past across Australia after the supermarket giant sold its fuel and convenience stores for $300m.

More than 700 servos across the country will be rebranded after the retailer announced an agreement with petrol and diesel supplier Viva Energy earlier this year.

Viva Energy – a long-term partner of Coles which supplies fuel from its Geelong refinery – recently brought Coles Express petrol stations from the supermarket giant.

Viva can continue to use the Coles Express name until 2026 Under the sale agreement with the supermarket giant,

But outlets are expected to ditch the name within two years by the end of 2025.

Coles Express service stations will be rebranded as ‘Reddy Express’.

The Coles name, which is currently displayed in white on a red background, will be replaced with the name ‘Reddy’ in the same colors.

The Shell name will still be prominently displayed at the stations, and the fuel in the pumps will remain Shell-branded.

‘Consistency and familiarity are critical to reassure our customers that they will continue to receive the same great service, offers, loyalty and rewards as they enjoy today,’ Viva Energy convenience and mobility head Jevan Bouzo said.

Customers will still be able to earn Flybuys points and receive the 4 cents per litre Coles docket discount.

Reddy Express stores will also stock Coles products for customers’ convenience.

many of the larger stores could, over time, convert again but that time to the OTR brand.

As well as snapping up Coles Express, Viva is also digesting OTR Group which it bought for $1.15 billion in April.

OTR, short for “On The Road,” is a fuel retailer that is particularly well known in South Australia and Victoria.

OTR stores often include fast food concession such as Subway, Hungry Jack’s and Guzamn Y Gomez.

“The transition of the Coles Express business over to Viva Energy has gone very well and the rebranding of these sites now to Reddy Express is the next step while we await the approval process of the OTR acquisition,” said Viva’s Mr Bouzo.
