Muhammad Halawa: Deepening the industry becomes doubly important with global crises

Representative Mohamed Halawa, Chairman of the Senate Industry and Trade Committee, said that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to deepen industry with all its components and transfer modern technology are gaining double importance with the succession of global crises due to the consequences of the Corona pandemic, which closed transport lines and affected vital industries such as transport, aviation and tourism, and the consequences of the Russian war. Ukraine, which caused disruption to supply chains and successive waves of inflation and high prices in the whole world, and the tendency of various countries of the world to refrain from exporting their products, especially food commodities and grains, in anticipation of developments in the situation in the world during the coming period.

The Chairman of the Senate Industry and Trade Committee stressed the need to focus strongly on industries with a local component, in which Egypt has a comparative advantage, and uphold the principle of deepening industry to ensure the necessity of bridging the dollar gap and targeting industries around which many feeding industries are being built, benefiting from the programs offered by the state for development. Young people and helping them to be business owners, along with modernizing the traditional industrial sectors that are very popular in the Arab and African markets, and paying attention to small and medium enterprises, due to their importance in providing new job opportunities and contributing to the provision of production requirements for other industries, which protects the national economy.

Mohamed Halawa, Chairman of the Senate Industry and Trade Committee, indicated that deepening the Egyptian industry and localizing modern technologies are at the forefront of the Egyptian state’s priorities, by training Egyptian human cadres in manufacturing and maintenance work, providing more job opportunities, and supporting the economy by exploiting the national feeding industries, as well as offering Local industry products at lower prices than their imported counterparts, and a greater ability to face emergency global crises

Mohamed Halawa, Chairman of the Senate Industry and Trade Committee, added, saying that the industry sector has recently witnessed a strong tendency to deepen the local industry in some areas, most notably the pharmaceutical, food and engineering industries, while striving to open new marketing outlets. The state has also paid great attention to strengthening the system of establishing industrial complexes to meet The needs of the local industry in terms of production requirements and intermediate industrial goods, and providing it with all the necessary services such as administrative buildings, training centers, service and logistical facilities, and banks to ensure the sustainability of productive activities and linking them to integrated production chains, including the industrial complex in Sadat City in Menoufia, the industrial complex in Port Said Governorate “south of Raswa”, and the industrial complex Badr City in Cairo, and the industrial complex in Margham in Alexandria, where these complexes represent an integrated system aimed at providing the necessary climate, environment and infrastructure to support the industries established in them and provide opportunities for expansion of these industries.

Mohamed Halawa, Chairman of the Senate Industry and Trade Committee, added that President El-Sisi’s directives to support the transfer of modern technology and the localization of industry open the door wide for the growth of the Egyptian private sector, attracting new foreign investments, and building large partnerships between the private and government sectors in major development projects, including infrastructure projects, modern irrigation and industry. Cars, electronic devices, computer components and artificial intelligence, which contribute to maximizing the value of the local component in that industry and reducing the import bill, and gaining great experience in managing major projects, given the size and spread of these projects at the level of the Republic, which enhances the provision of new job opportunities for young people annually.
