Al-Sayyid Al-Qaseer, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and in his capacity as President of the General Assembly of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), received Dr. Nasr El-Din Al-Obeid, Executive Director of “ACSAD” and discussed with him the progress of work in the organization, joint cooperation relations and prospects for its development in various fields.
The meeting dealt with the projects implemented by ACSAD in the Arab Republic of Egypt in cooperation with the Desert Research Center and the Agricultural Research Center, which contribute to achieving food security and reducing the negative effects of climate changes, which is the project of stabilizing and exploiting sand dunes to limit climate changes in Siwa Oasis, which aims to Increasing productive areas through the rehabilitation and protection of lands exposed to sand encroachment in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
During the meeting, ACSAD projects in the field of water harvesting and good agricultural practices were also evaluated to improve the livelihood of the rural population in Matrouh Governorate, aspects of cooperation with national institutions and Arab and international organizations were also discussed, and coordination and partnership with the World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development were discussed. “Dispatching”, in the common areas of work.
During the meeting, “Al-Obeid” gave a presentation on the work of the Executive Council of the Arab Center “ACSAD” and the decisions issued by it. He also appreciated the participation of the Minister of Agriculture in the United Nations Food Systems Summit to review global food systems to discuss food security issues, the results that were reached and ways to activate them. And related to taking the necessary measures to spread alternative crops that are adapted to climate changes, which come within the framework of the recommendations of the Cairo Declaration approved by the General Assembly of ICSAD in 2022.
It is worth noting that Mr. Al-Qaseer, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, is the President of the General Assembly of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) in its current session.
It should be noted that ACSAD was established in 1968, and it is a specialized Arab organization that operates within the framework of the League of Arab States, with the aim of unifying national efforts to develop agricultural scientific research in arid and semi-arid regions, and exchanging information and experiences in a way that can benefit from the fruits of scientific progress, transfer, development and localization of technologies. Modern agriculture with the aim of increasing agricultural production in these areas.
