The Board of Directors of the Nuclear and Radiological Control Authority, headed by Dr. Sami Shaaban, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority, approved in its session No. (6) held today, Wednesday, August 30, 2023, to grant permission to establish the fourth unit at the Dabaa nuclear power plant.
And according to Law No. “7” of 2010 regarding the regulation of nuclear and radiological activities, and its executive regulations issued by Prime Minister’s Resolution No. “1326” of 2011, and what was included in Article 13 of the procedures for the stages of licensing nuclear facilities, and its amendments issued by Resolution No. “211” of 2017, which specified The various procedures for licensing nuclear facilities, the Nuclear and Radiological Control Authority has taken the necessary measures to verify the availability of the highest levels of safety for the Dabaa nuclear project in accordance with the highest international standards, as follows:
– Holding dialogue sessions with representatives of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority for Electricity Generation, from 11-15 June 2023, to discuss the feedback of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority on the results of the review, and to take into account the results of the dialogue on the review and evaluation of the first, second and third units.
– The Control Authority accurately assessed the differences between the fourth unit and the first, second and third units, and all the Authority’s inquiries were answered by the license applicant’s representatives through holding intensive meetings at the Authority’s headquarters.
– According to the results of the review, evaluation and inspection, the safety of the fourth unit of the Dabaa nuclear power generation plant was verified, and no risks were proven to threaten humans, the environment and property. Therefore, the Board of Directors of the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority decided, in its session No. (6) for the year 2023, to approve granting the construction permit for the unit. Fourth, at the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, in accordance with the terms of the permission.
The Authority will continue its efforts to verify the commitment of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority to generate electricity with the conditions of the permission granted and the regulatory control of the implementation of the construction and equipment manufacturing phase, and to conduct the necessary inspections, within the framework of the Nuclear and Radiological Control Authority’s role in verifying the safety of people, the environment and property on all Egyptian lands from Possible dangers, and to ensure the promotion of the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology in all aspects of development.
It is worth noting that permission to establish the first unit was granted in June 2022, the second unit in October 2022, and the third unit in March 2023.
