Statistics: Egypt imports $12.5 billion of intermediate goods within 5 months

The latest reports of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics showed that Egypt’s imports of intermediate goods shrank to $12.5 billion during the first five months of the current year 2023, compared to $16.1 billion during the corresponding months of the previous year, an increase of $3.6 billion.

Decline in iron imports

The Mobilization and Statistics Authority indicated that imports of raw materials of iron or steel recorded the largest decline, to 1.5 billion dollars during the first five months of the current year 2023, compared to 2.9 billion dollars during the corresponding months of the previous year, a decrease of 1.4 billion dollars, followed by imports of plastics in all its forms. The primary value, whose value declined to the range of $1.3 billion during the first five months of 2023, compared to $2.06 billion during the corresponding months of the previous year, a decrease of $668.3 million.

Car imports fell

Imports of organic and inorganic chemicals recorded $1.3 billion during the first five months of 2023, compared to $1.6 billion during the corresponding months of the previous year, a decrease of $373.9 million. Imports of plant or synthetic filaments and fibers also declined to $454 million. During the first five months of 2023, compared to $500 million during the corresponding months of the previous year, and imports of car parts decreased to $241.9 million during the first five months of 2023, compared to $325 million during the corresponding months of the previous year, a decrease of 83.1. The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics had announced a decline in the general total of Egypt’s imports from countries of the world to the limits of $33.4 billion during the period between January and May of 2023, compared to $42.1 billion during the corresponding period of the previous year, a decrease of $8.7 billion.
