Ammon – Minister of Public Works and Housing and Minister of Transport, Maher Abu Al-Saman, confirmed that the ministry submitted a study to raise transportation fares by rates of up to (15-20) percent, but Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh refused that.
Abu Al-Saman said, during his hosting of the “Friendly Fire” program, which is broadcast on the Amman screen and presented by colleague Hani Al-Badri, “President Al-Khasawneh said frankly: Raising transportation fares is prohibited.. We support, so the ministry pays 2 million dinars per month to support buses.”
Regarding smart transportation applications, he explained that from the beginning he tried to stop unlicensed smart transportation applications, but the applications do many technical matters that are difficult to solve, indicating that there are 40,000 people working on unlicensed transportation applications.
He affirmed the Ministry’s rejection of the proposal to raise the number of licensed applications in the field of transportation at the present time, especially that the Ministry is conducting a study concerned with the transfer of individuals from taxis and renting vehicles to find out the needs in the transportation of individuals.
He noted that, based on the results of the study for which a tender will be issued, we either lift the license for smart transport applications or suffice with what is available, referring to the violations received by the transport authority, and appropriate measures are taken.
