The General Authority for Ports “Mawani” announced today the addition of the Thai company “RCL” – the pioneer in the field of maritime shipping – to the new shipping service “RGA”, which connects King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam with the ports of Southeast Asia and West Asia, thus contributing to the promotion of the transport sector. The new service comes within the framework of “Mawani” efforts to support the competitiveness of Saudi ports, and improve the Kingdom’s classification on the UNCTAD Maritime Transport Lines Index, after Saudi ports achieved their highest progress in the maritime navigation network connectivity index, within the UNCTAD report for the second quarter of 2023 AD, issued by the conference. United Nations for Trade and Development, with a score of 76.16 points, making the Kingdom rank 16th in the world, among 187 countries, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics by consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center, and a hub connecting 3 continents.
The new freight service, which starts weekly, starting from the first week in September 2023 AD, from the Vietnamese Ho Chi Minh Port, with one ship, connects King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam with 6 regional and international ports, including: Vietnamese Cay Meep, Thai Laem Chabang, Port Klang in Malaysia, and Nhava Sheva. Al-Hindi, Jebel Ali in the Emirates, and Sohar in Oman. The new service contributes to enhancing the port’s ability to support the movement of national imports and exports, as well as raising the Kingdom’s classification in international indicators, given its qualitative operational and logistical capabilities, as it embraces modern handling equipment that enables it to handle various types of goods and receive giant ships. 43 fully serviced and equipped berths.
It is noteworthy that King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam achieved a new record during the month of July 2023 AD, by handling 211,202 standard containers in one month, which reflects the success of “Mawani” efforts in developing its infrastructure to transform it into a leading port that enjoys long-term sustainability goals, automation, digitization, and supply chain. Integrated, being the main port of the Kingdom on the Arabian Gulf, and linked with the dry port in Riyadh by rail, it is also a major port through which goods pass from all over the world to the eastern and central regions.
