Cambridge United midfielder Adam May set to return from cruciate knee ligament injury in EFL Trophy clash at Peterborough United

Adam May is set to appear in Cambridge United colours for the first time in almost a year tomorrow evening.

The midfielder has been sidelined since October 2022 with cruciate knee ligament damage sustained during a Sky Bet League One trip to Bristol Rovers.

However, having spent the last few weeks building up his fitness levels in training, the 25-year-old is now likely to feature away at Peterborough United in Cambridge’s opening EFL Trophy group encounter of the season on Tuesday.

Assistant head coach Barry Corr said: “He’s looking forward to the game and has been training with us for quite a while now.

“We all think that he’s getting sharper with every training session he has and the next step is to play minutes on the pitch.

“He’s been really good in training and he’s going to be a really important part of our squad. It will be good for him to get his first minutes tomorrow.

“It’s always difficult when you get such long-term injuries. He’s had a tough time but he’s seeing the end of it now.

“I have my own experiences of that (knee injuries) and I kind of know what Adam has been through. He’s a brilliant guy, very popular amongst the rest of the guys so we’re all really pleased to see him getting back out on the pitch. He’ll be such an important member of our squad.”

Corr also confirmed that defender Zeno Ibsen Rossi is likely to make his second appearance of the campaign but the game will come too soon for left-back Brandon Haunstrup, who is still working his way back from a calf injury.
