O Botafogo visit the Atlético-MG this Saturday, at 9pm, in Glorioso’s first game in the new Arena MRV, which will only receive its second official game. And Glorioso has an excellent record of debuts in stadiums in Belo Horizonte.
According to data gathered by journalist and researcher Rafael Casé, in a report in “GE”, Botafogo has five wins in six games when it plays for the first time in the stadiums of the capital of Minas Gerais.
One of the victories was special. Botafogo won the Inaugurção do Mineirão Trophy in 1965, with a 3-2 victory over the Minas Gerais team, in a match that marked Garrincha’s penultimate game. Gerson, Othon and Jairzinho scored Fogão’s goals.
The only defeat was in 1933, at the Estádio do Barro Preto, Cruzeiro’s former home ground, when Botafogo was beaten 2-0 by the Minas Gerais National Team.
