At the eighth time of asking Histon are off the mark in this season’s Uhlsport United Counties Football League Premier Division South.
Having picked up just two points from their opening seven fixtures, the Stutes headed into the weekend’s home clash against Coventry United sitting bottom of the table.
However, they have now jumped up a couple of places to 18th after their 3-2 victory – although it was far from a straightforward assignment.
Lance Key’s hosts were seemingly cruising towards their first win of the campaign when they went in at half-time three goals to the good courtesy of efforts from Max York, Efraim Romanos and Danny Gould.
However, there was to be a nervy finish at Bridge Road as Coventry, who also had a player sent off, pulled two goals back through Zach Tellyn and Ethan Baynham.
And they would have netted a late equaliser had not been for an acrobatic save by Histon goalkeeper Sam Roach to preserve the victory.
Histon, who are due to be in league action on Tuesday night at home versus St Neots Town, will host fellow Premier Division South side Eynesbury Rovers in the Isuzu FA Vase on Saturday (September 23).
